Attorney, Iraq Veteran Jack Melvin Announces Run For Waukesha County Circuit Court

Former Lieutenant Governor Farrow, former Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Prosser to Co-Chair campaign

May 30, 2019 – Oconomowoc, WI – Today, attorney and Iraq veteran Jack Melvin announced that he is seeking election to Waukesha County Circuit Court Branch 5 in the April 2020 election. Current Branch 5 judge, Lee S. Dreyfus, Jr., is not expected to seek re-election.

In addition to announcing his run, Melvin also announced that former Lieutenant Governor Margaret Farrow and former Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice David Prosser will serve as his campaign Co-Chairs, bringing a wealth of experience, insight, and the respect of grassroots volunteers.

Waukesha County has a proud tradition of electing judges that respect the rule of law and I hope to bring yet another conservative voice to the bench. Waukesha County is one of the best places in the world in which to work, live, and raise a family, and as a husband and father, I want to continue to serve my community and play a role in Waukesha County’s bright future,” said Melvin.

I was called to serve my country through three tours in the Middle East. I hope to earn the support of the good people of Waukesha County so that as a judge I can bring that unique experience and perspective to our community,” he continued.

Jack has spent more than 40 months on active duty, of which 36 months were spent overseas as a member of the Wisconsin National Guard at the rank of Major. Melvin’s most-recent deployment was to Iraq in 2016 as a member of the Wisconsin unit that augmented the famed “Screaming Eagle” 101st Airborne Division. Melvin served as the Division’s Operational Law Attorney in the effort to help Iraq expel ISIS from its borders. His previous deployment came a little over a year prior (2014) with the headquarters detachment of Wisconsin’s 32nd Infantry Brigade in Jordan, aiding in its protection from the ISIS-fueled civil war embroiling neighboring Syria. Jack’s first deployment was in 2008 when has was assigned to the U.S. Embassy in Egypt as part of the counter terrorism and anti-piracy efforts in the Middle East.

Former Lieutenant Governor Margaret Farrow said, “We have seen many fine young men and women become judges and serve Waukesha County and I’m looking forward to seeing Jack’s conservative perspective and compassionate approach to the law as a judge. I’m certain he will serve us – as he has his country – with distinction.

Former Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice David Prosser noted, “Jack has an exceptional legal mind and his will to serve is unparalleled. Without question, he will be a bright, insightful, conservative jurist.
